Biomimicry Journal
Biomimicry is the practice of imitating or being inspired by nature to improve human invention and design. These principles and practices look towards nature to see how it solves certain problems. Janine Benyus was the first to coin the term Biomimicry, but the practice has been around for generations.
Nature-inspired design can be seen in full force through the teachings at Biomimicry 3.8 as well as through AskNature, websites my course looked at extensively. In Biomimicry 3.8 there are nature lead practices called iSites that inspire specific ways to connect with nature. iSites utilize all your different senses and fields of knowledge to ponder nature and learn from it.
This journal is an accumulation of these iSites, guided excursions throughout coastal Georgia, and additional research and insight. With over 25 pages of handwritten content, this may be one of the projects I’m most proud of.
Watch the video flip-through and then see the scanned pages below, along with photos from the various excursions that inspired the journal.
